Information about the Fraser Valley

The Fraser Valley fishing experience is enhanced by the scenic beauty of the area, and the abundance of other activities that are enjoyed year round. There are not many places in the world where it is possible to successfully fish winter steelhead, downhill ski and enjoy a full round of golf, all on the same day!!

The area is easily accessed from any direction by car via Highway 1 (TransCanada), Highway 3 or Highway 5 (Coquihalla). Seattle, USA is only a 3 hour drive to the heart of the Valley. Customs crossings are available at Sumas, Aldergrove and Whiterock. International visitors will arrive at Vancouver International Airport (VIA), while domestic flights arrive at both VIA and Abbotsford Municipal Airport.

Major cities in the valley include Langley, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack on the south side of the Fraser, with Maple Ridge and Mission located on the north side.

While angling is a big reason for visiting the area, many other activities can be enjoyed by the rest of your family or group. Golf courses are plentiful in the Fraser Valley. They range in size and difficulty from Pitch and Putts, to world class courses that host PGA tournaments.

We're not far from the city of Vancouver. Vancouver is home to Stanley Park and the Vancouver Aquarium. This port city provides endless shopping opportunities if the "big city" is on your list. If not, visit the huge shopping malls in the valley in Surrey, Langley and Abbotsford.
If you are a downhill skier, you'll find the local mountains to be challenging. With a bit more travel time available, you can ski world class Whistler and Blackcomb mountains.

Sight-seeing is easily accomplished by taking a drive through the valley on a nice day. Endless mountain peaks are seen along the main highway. By driving off the beaten path, you can be right amongst the towering mountains. Slightly further afield, there are dozens of great day hikes. Many of these hikes take a few hours of your time, are easy walking with moderate grades, and are suitable for all age groups. Mount Cheam is one hike that is quite easy to do - the view is well worth the hike.

Local attractions are endless, no matter which end of the valley you are in. Around Chilliwack there is Cultus lake and the waterslides located there. There are an increasing number of agri-tours available throughout the valley, showcasing one of the main industries in the valley. There are a number of fish hatcheries that offer good viewing platforms to watch migrating salmon. Capilano, Norrish Creek, and Chilliwack River to name a few are available to the public and offer not only good viewpoints, but also valuable information into the amazing journey of the salmon. A number of good parks exist in the Valley too - some of which are provincial parks. Other excellent parks are just outside the Valley but are within easy day drives.
